Getting a chance to watch METAL SHIFTERS again but this time on Blu-ray was a fun revisiting to the fan favorite Syfy Saturday night movie.
We follow two brothers who run a small town family hotel somewhere in Iowa. A Soviet satellite falls from the sky and (of course) lands in a near by field where a local artist is building a metal sculpture and guess what, it has some green alien ooze on it that animates the giant metal monster. A small group bands together to fight off this giant and ultimately saves the day! Watching how they save the day is the fun part because it has something to do with alcohol of all things! Yep, I said it!
The cool thing about Metal Shifters is the famiiar faces you'll notice, a Syfy family reunion of sorts like Kavan Smith (Stargate: Atlantis,The 4400) Nicole de Boer (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, CUBE), Chris Gauthier (Eureka), Paul McGillion (Stargate: Atlantis) and Donnelly Rhodes (Battlestar Galactica) all star in the fun movie.
Another fun thing about Metal Shifters is the CGI and F/X are done really well for a low budget movie! I love anything that even resembles something like a Transformer and this one has it and the thing looks really cool! The movie is definitely one you can watch more than once which is always a good thing when making an investment in Blu-ray's and DVD's. any fan of the Syfy Saturday night movies will enjoy this plus it has a cool BTS featurette that shows how they did some of the F/X and some of the clowning around that went on.
Bottom line is if you enjoy these Syfy Saturday night movies then be sure to give it a try! Rent it or buy it if you already have some of these Syfy movies in your collection because it's one of the better ones! It drops on February 7th. 3/5
