Future XBox to NOT Play Used Games?

So it seems the internet is in an uproar today, as rumors leak out that the next XBox console (due out in 2013 or 2014) will NOT be able to play used games. What does this mean for you the consumer? You will not be able to share a game with your friends to try out. Or more importantly, you will not be able to buy a used game!

It would be great if we heard some sort of statement from Gamestop, who is the biggest used games seller these days. Surely their company would be massively hurt from such a decision like this.

The one plus side, these same rumors are stating that the next XBox will also offer Blu-Ray support. This is an obvious addition to console, and would put it in even more competition with Sony's next generation console.

Recently Kotaku.com recieved a statement from a Microsoft rep stating:
"As an innovator we're always thinking about what is next and how we can push the boundaries of technology like we did with Kinect. We believe the key to extending the lifespan of a console is not just about the console hardware, but about the games and entertainment experiences being delivered to consumers. Beyond that we don't comment on rumors or speculation."
It's one thing to prohibit users from sharing download codes for extra content of a game, but to restrict a user to always buy new games just seems like bad business. Although they will not loose all of their user base, I can see a big amount of them switching over to the PlayStation side if this turns out to be true.
