Fans have been waiting for this moment for a long time and it's finally happening in 2012. The classic series Star Trek: The Next Generation is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year and will become available in HD on Blu-ray. First up is STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION - THE NEXT LEVEL, a preview of what we have to look forward to.
What's special about checking out The Next Level on Blu-ray is knowing Paramount took its time and did it right. The studio went through all 25,000 plus reels of film, everything as it originally aired and perfectly transferred to 1080P.
We just get one disc in this preview for what's to come that includes the feature-length pilot “Encounter at Farpoint” and two more “fan favorite” episodes, “The Inner Light” (Season 5) and “Sins of the Father” (Season 3). Three episodes that you can watch over and over again.
What stands out to me is the special effects and visuals of the Enterprise and its lights being much clearer, brighter and detailed than before. Yes, it's very noticeable! So, as a fan and already loving the series, especially "Encounter at Farpoint" this really makes it special and brings back some childhood memories watching this on TV but now with some wild and updated visual enhancements, or as this geek says, some nice eye candy!
Something else I like on the DVD is the actual menu screen that looks like the screens from the Enterprise itself and includes a few treats. Great thinking adding this in and I hope they do this for the rest of the releases because it just adds to the experience and the die hard fans will love it.
Bottom line is I highly recommend picking up this preview of what's to come for Star Trek: The Next Generation. You can tell the difference and watching these three episodes from Star Trek: The Next Generation definitely takes this classic series to "The Next Level." and becomes available on January 31st. 5/5
