The writers of STAR TREK 2 or whatever you want to call it right now has written a role for Bruce Greenwood to reprise his role as former Captain and now Admiral Pike. Greenwood has yet to accept but why wouldn't he.
Co-writer Bob Orci teased this;

"We wrote a part for Greenwood. Let us hope he says “Yes!”I think Greenwood will be back, what do you think?
