Blu-ray Review: CHILLERAMA

Being one of the lucky ones who already got to see CHILLERAMA, it was a welcomed visit to this crazy anthology that puts a twist on our favorite horror classics. I love this movie!

Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2, Knights of Badassdom) delivers Zom-B-Movie, a kind of wrap around that follows the closing night at the last drive-in theater and all hell breaks loose. Veteran actor Richard Riehle plays Cecil Kaufman, a drive-in owner who is having a hard time accepting the time has come to close down. Zombies "take a bite" and take over in this segment that leaves us in a cliff hanger. Even super composer Bear McCreary lends his talents for this! Yeah, it's that awesome!

Lynch also delivers us Deathication, a fake commercial/intermission that is hilarious, "shit yo pants" hilarious! This reminds me of some Troma classics from the past and delivers some of the best laughs I've has in recent memory!

Adam Rifkin brings us Wadzilla, a story about a sperm that grows into a giant monster. Slapstick or slapshock this is downright awesome! Rifkin throws himself in front of the screen in this hilarious segment that pays homage to classic monster movies like King Kong and Godzilla. The F/X are fun to watch in this segment and are delivered in prime cheesy fashion. Ray Wise (X-Men: First Class, Jeepers Creepers 2) and Eric Roberts (Batman Begins) both appear in Wadzilla that delivers a bases loaded home run for viewer.

Tim Sullivan (2001 Manics, Scream Queens) brings us I Was a Teenage Wearbear which is a "coming of age" kind of segment. Sullivan tales us back to the 50's bee-bop style musical. Think Grease mixed with the campy blood and gore of a 50's werewolf flick. What I liked most about this segment is some of the lines the actors throw at us, even when they're singing. Gaby West (Scream Queens) is hilarious in Wearbear, You can't keep a straight face when you see what she does with her character, with her facial expressions and mumbling. Lin Shaye (Insidious) also appears in the segment and is always a delight to see! Did I mention Sullivan throws himself in front of the screen in a hilarious "head bursting" scene? Good stuff!

Adam Green (Hatchet 1&2, Frozen) brings us The Diary of Anne Frankenstein that has Kane Hodder like we've never seen him before. Shot in black and white and taking jabs at Hitler played by Joel David Moore (Avatar), well, you'd just have to see this to believe it, did I mention we have a Jewish Frankenstein like monster named Meshugannah in this segment and Kristina Kleebe who plays Eva Braun. Diary is laugh out loud fun. You can tell they had a lot of fun making this!

Chillerama is nothing less than an awesome anthology put together by these four directors. It fits right in with the classics like Creepshow, Twilight Zone: The Movie and the most recent Trick 'R Treat. The score and sound F/X are awesome and fits right in with every scene.  Even the artwork on this Blu-ray is awesome, inside and out!

Bottom line is, if you're looking for a new anthology with plenty of humor, horror, gore and more cameos than you can shake a stick at then pick up the Chillerama (Unrated) [Blu-ray] when it drops on November 29th. This is an awesome watch and an instant classic! 4.5/5
