New Deadlands Comic Featured at The Weird West Saloon

The Weird West Saloon, The Artifice Club's summer show to be held on Saturday, July 23rd, will play host to co-founder and Creative Director of Visionary Comics, C. Edward Sellner, publisher of the new Deadlands comic books series.

Deadlands, based on the RPG of the same name, is a four-book series combining horror and Western themes with a Steampunk aesthetic. Set in an alternate "Weird West" of the late 19th century, the books consist of four one-shot stories along with a four-part backup story. The first installment, The Devil's Six Gun, is written and illustrated by David Gallaher and Steve Ellis, the team behind the werewolf western webcomic High Moon. It tells the tale of Copernicus Blackburne, a creative genius who strikes a Faustian bargain to produce the perfect weapon. It hits stores June 15th, to be followed on July 20th byMassacre at Redwing by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray (Jonah Hex) and drawn by Lee Moder.

Sellner, an artist and the writer of the four-part backup story, will be on hand with limited edition copies of the first Deadlandscomic and various promotional materials. Attendees are encouraged to dress in their Weird West best, or even as their favoriteDeadlands character.

The Weird West Saloon is the summer event of The Artifice Club, an organization dedicated to producing events and entertainments in the anachronistic community of artists and patrons of the arts. The show features the swinging hot jazz sounds of local music sensations Blair Crimmins and the Hookers, burlesque by Talloolah Love and Her Saloon Girls, and Doctor Q and DJ Swivel spinning an eclectic mix of tunes. "Sheriff" Sabrina Pandora will keep the peace and keep the audience laughing as MC.

The event also features the Trading Post Market, open free to the public from 5 to 7 p.m., where artists, photographers, fabricators and other vendors will offer their wares in a setting reminiscent of an old-time general store. The Western theme will be carried out in the venue's d├ęcor by Penny Dreadful Productions.
Throughout the night, patrons may participate in a charity casino featuring blackjack, Texas Hold 'Em and roulette.  In addition, those not interested in gambling can take part in a charity “Maverick Shootout” Quick Draw tournament.  Prizes will be awarded for both events, and proceeds benefit Dream Power Therapeutic Equestrian Center, sponsored by VONschmalhausen.

General membership is $16 in advance, $20 at the door. A limited number of Elite and Noble memberships are available. Elite membership is $30 per person and includes two drink tickets and special priority seating. Noble membership is $65 and includes admission for two, four drink tickets and access to the exclusive Nobles' Parlor, where members can relax and enjoy complimentary coffee and tea service.
